Shouldn't Have Left Work Early

Today was one of those days that you'd like to take back. You've been there before, I know. I found myself during a slow period at work and figured that I could leave 2 hours early, talk to my bank about a home equity line of credit, run some errands, clean off my DVD shelf and maybe get a nap in before Rock Star: INXS starts. This didn't work out as planned.

The bank tells me that they've been trying to get ahold of me for 2 days since I submitted my application. I don't see a blinking light on my answering machine and they said they left a message... oh well. I told them that I'd like to think about things because they might have to charge me $150 for an appraisal on the property and I'd rather have the money in my pocket right now. I then start heading home. I exit off the freeway because of traffic.

It was a slow light in the fast lane heading west and people were jockeying for position before the light turned green... that's when I hit the white Escalade in front of me. Sure, I was only going 4-5 mph but this didn't help my day. We pull into a nearby 7/11 and I finally decide to get something to eat (skipped lunch to run errands) -- deciding on the dreaded chili cheese spicy hotdog. The damage to his car was very minimal and both of us were unharmed. (See rather dark photo) my left headlight (to your right) and bumper paid dearly. So, that $150 that I was so worried about... I am going to pay $350 more in deductible to fix the Rodeo (and if you know much of the early blog history of the Rodeo and accidents... be afraid.)

I called the insurance, have my ticket here for the accident and the car is able to be driven but has sharp turn issues. So, now all I have to ask myself is, "Why the hell didn't I stay at work?!" Such is life, I guess.

If it makes you feel any better, I just 'Epilady'ed my legs...

Actually, I'm glad Diva brought that up...

When I lived in Vegas (har har har) my girlfriend ran into the back of my truck while we were looking for the Q102 Rock (long story.) Anyway, we called the police as we thought we were suppose to, and they gave her a ticket.

Thing was, she was married to Stephen Hill (you might have heard of him, he's dead now,) a big DA dude for LV and he said that the cop was wrong for giving the ticket. If you guys were both in agreement on what happened, there should have been no ticket, just a witness.

If you want, I can ask Lil about it. If I have my facts right and you state your case in court, it just may save you a few bucks.

Diva - I do know that the driver would have liked to do that but it wasn't his vehicle (he was driving the company car.) Would have been nice to just pay for damages but the company also wanted the police report.

RT - no fighting this one. I'd have loved to have come up with a viable excuse but I just owned up to it. I turned my attention away from the road while moving which is a big no-no. I'll be ok though. B)

Well, since you're Ok (and I'm glad you're Ok) and you're comfortable with taking responsibility, I'll be more upset that rt just 'Epilady'ed her legs. Had one of those once. Did ya cry alot?? Poor thing *shakin head* lol

Awww Martin - I hate it when that happens. Thankfully everyone's okay... Karl just got a speeding ticket taken care of by one of those lawyers who do all that court hubub for you, if you want the information. He didn't even charge a dime.

It wasn't your leaving work early, it was your getting off the freeway. At least your ok and the damage appears minimal.

LMAO @ RT

Well, you're OK, the other person is OK, so at least it's only a minor annoyance.

I was in an accident like that once, and the other driver called my house complaining of neck pain. Besides laughing, I gave him the non-toll-free number of Allstate, and had a good laugh.

Bummer about your fender bender.

I have to boycott the INXS show because I am still mourning Michael.

I am sorry to hear about the accident. I am glad that it was only a minor fender bender and that you are ok. It seems just when you are done with fixing the car.. you get to start over again. That is so frustrating.

Ok, so I took the Rodeo over to get an estimate by the same people who fixed it before (oddly enough, same area that was damaged previously.) They were able to pull the fender from rubbing the tire so I can drive on it for the next two weeks (they are really busy over there.) The early estimate was looking pretty good until he entered it into his computer with labor and all. The very cool software shows diagrams of the parts and has a threshold meter. The sensor lets the person know if it is getting close to going over the value of the vehicle. It's close again. So I have to start thinking about possibly getting another car (which I've debated since gas prices passed $1.35.)
