The Project That May Never End

Back some time ago, I asked a friend to take some of his favorite bands and solo artists then list his favorite song (better if it wasn't a big hit or overplayed.) I figured that this would be the best compilation that someone who only has a cursory idea of some of these artists could get. I started mine also and have decided that at some point, I'll make a CD compilation of all the tracks from my own collection. The problem that I had was that once I started it, I had trouble going back. I don't know if it was the fact that I really love a lot of music, that I keep thinking of a lot of the same bands or don't know how big that I want the list. Anyhow, I have decided to put what I started with back then in print to force myself to revisit it at some point. If it ever gets finished, I'll be pretty shocked. In no particular order:

This list makes me cry. Your taste is music is art in and of itself. (I do admit to not recognizing quite a few of these).

I love my iPod.

One of my favorites on the list was Edie by the Cult. Loved that whole album. I'm gonna have to look up some of these and give them a listen.

You've always had the best taste in music. Having an idea the size of your music collection, I'm really surprised you were able to narrow it down this far! I wouldn't be able to do the same, and I have nowhere near the music collection you have.

Okay I re-read this morning, I was apparently too tired to see the "To be added to..." at the very end.

Great list. If I ever get an iPod, I'll remember this list. You did the work for me.

I certainly hope that tyhe WORST songs of some of these artists (U2, Rolling Stones) rate higher than these "best of" songs from others (Air Supply, for example).

Overall, great choices!

What does it mean if I don't really know any of these?

There's a lot of songs here I don't know by name, but perhaps by tune. I'll have to check out Rhapsody to see how many are available to give a listen to them.

Thank you all for your comments. B) When you own about 3,000 CDs, it opens you up to a few other songs out there than just the hits. But that's also because I'm rather obsessive about hearing and collecting all the music that I can from the decade. Sometimes, the album tracks stand stronger over time than the hits but so far, if I could only take one song by each artist with me, these would be them. Of course, I'll keep adding and adjusting the list (yes, "Who Wants To Live Forever" by Queen gives me chills everytime I hear it and it is going up there) as there are so many artists to even consider songs from.

I just added Haircut 100's Boy Meets Girl on to my i-pod.
I also added Rick James Super Freak and Give It To Me Baby, and the Stray Cat Strut. I added a ton of other stuff too but stuff from the 60's 70's 90's & Y2K
I added a ton of Stabbing Westward. They are the shiznit. So under rated. From my neck o' the woods right here in Chi Town.
