I read a lot of online content. It's hard to get me to finish a book (let alone start one) to which many of my friends can attest. Even though I write a newsletter each week, I also read several.
Kim Komando writes a great one but the one I've had the longest is
A Word A Day, which is great for freaks like me that like big words but don't use them enough. Sure, they might sit in my email box for a week or so sometimes but I'll eventually get to them and fill a few odd moments I find that I have nothing planned. So here is an easy question for you. What word do you overuse most?
Wow...it would have to Wow.
ReplyDeleteI say "wow" way too often.
Wow is such a lame word but I can't seem o stop using it to express my thoughts.
I just signed up for AWAD.
Actually, I have a few I catch myself using. Apparently, I use them only to make myself appear smarter. Unfortunately, everyone knows now. :)
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else see the subject of this post and sing to themselves: "when no one listens anymore" or was that just me?
ReplyDeleteI would also have to go with "actually", apparently I say it so much that a coworker when creating one of those buzzword bingo games had it as a square.
Fabulous is a word I use WAY too much.
ReplyDeleteI'm on my way right now to sign up for AWAD... sounds like good email to get for a change.
Lily: I did the same thing!! I have a feeling Martin had that very intention. :)
That is exactly what I thought Lily :)
ReplyDeleteTotally, Grody to the max, and gag me with a spoon.
Just kidding! Growing up in "The Valley" in LA in the 80's people ask me all the time did I talk like that. I didn't (and still don't), however, I did keep a word that I use in all my sentences.. it is the word "like". Must be a "valley Girl" thing I guess.
What word do you overuse the most? You never answered your own question.
Actually, I overuse actually...AND I say DUDE a lot...I'm not even from california
ReplyDeleteOk, how did we get off on the, ok, favorite word tangent. Ok, I thought we were talking about overused words, ok?
ReplyDeleteOK. I use it and abuse it. OK?
ReplyDeleteI find that I use the words "though," "actually," "believe" and "cool" way too often. Since I do write a lot, I notice this repetition and it pisses me off. Oh well. You get yourself trained a certain way, you won't change it.
ReplyDeleteOK, so like Teri I use an abundance of "like" and when writing I use "OK" but lately, dropping the F bomb has been a real favorite.
ReplyDelete"Like". I have, like, tried to stop myself but I can't seem to, like, do it. It's annoying!
ReplyDeleteAll the other ones I use to much are curse words and I don't want to soil your clean blog with them.
I tend to always use the word "definitely." It isn't even like something is definite but I say it a lot. I also tend to say "anyhow" as my most common segue when I'm writing stuff. It's silly but we do overuse words a lot!
