Morpheus Pondering

Took a nap earlier, am just now about to pass out and figured I better post. I notice some people never understand what I mean when I tell them that I'm going to pass out because they are thinking: 1) I have low blood sugar 2) a cerebral hemorrhage is eminent or 3) I literally will fall on the floor. I guess instead of saying that I'm going to sleep, hitting the sack, off to saw logs, catching some Z's, off to count sheep or off to La La land I've always liked the image of losing all physical mobility and tuning out for several hours. Now, if I did have a problem like narcolepsy then I'd be a little more cautious with my phrasing.

After my accident about 2 1/2 years ago (involving the trunk of a Navigator and the top of my head), I have been stuck with consistent headaches. One of the only ways that I've found to minimize them is to sleep on my back without a pillow. It does make the bed look funky. I even partially put my arms across my chest which makes me think "coffin" and I don't know why that seems reassuring to me. I tried the little neck pillows back some time ago and found out that they are useless. I'm actually very protective of my sleep. If I don't get enough, I can be really grouchy because I know I won't be fully functional or aware of my surroundings. Anyhow, I'm gonna pass out. Sleep well.

I can't believe that was 2 1/2 years ago. I use the term pass out when I refer to sleep as well.
Since my car accident 3 years ago, I can't sleep with a regular pillow either. I bought one of those expensive pillows from the Relax the Back store that have a dip in the middle for my neck and it helps me.

I think you sleep in a "coffin" position because of your interest in vampires :)

You grouchy???? I do not believe I have ever seen you this way.

I am sorry to hear about your headaches! I get them too for different reasons.

I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for the comments you wrote on my 80's page. I hope it didn't seem like I don't appreicate those bands and their music...it's just so funny to look back on the way they dressed. Obviously you know alot more about their music than I do!!!

Mart, I won't worry about the coffin "position", but if you start sleeping hanging upside down from a bar then I am going to get a little worried.

I only wish I could sleep without a pillow - it would solve the whole pillow-buying problem I'm still working through.

I am sorry you're still getting those headaches, I can't even imagine that kind of pain all the time.

I'll start to worry when you refuse to come out during the day.

Headaches are the pits when trying to sleep.

I recently bought myself a "Memory Foam" pillow ($70AU) and although I fought with it for awhile until I got used to it, it's great now!
Really helps the headaches and stops you waking up with sore ears.

It has neck supports on both long edges of one side and when you put your head on it, it squashes itself to the shape of your head and neck. When you take it off again, it goes back to it's original shape.

Who knew pillows could be so smart?!

...FJ.

PS. I don't know if you can get this brand outside of Australia, but if you can, the Memory Foam pillow is made by "Tontine"

Sorry about your headaches. I start out with a pillow, but somehow I always wake up with it on the floor. Maybe I'm an active dreamer, who knows?

Bummer on the headache thing, Marten. But agreed, sleep and the total loss of function can be the best thing in the whole world.

I too call it passing out, especially when it is not expected. "I sat down on the bed to take my shoes off and woke up 45 minutes later." THAT is passing out :-)

If I am not mistaken, I have pictures of you in Vampire regalia -- hmmmm.
