Top 5 Pillow Injuries

Sure, we've seen violence with pillows many many times on television. Whether it is the wife snuffing out her husband's life or snoring under a pillow or the ever popular pillow fights during a 'sleep over.' But here's something you probably haven't thought about... 5,840 people with pillow related injuries checked into U.S. emergency rooms in 1992. Not hospitals but emergency rooms meaning there probably were more non-emergency injuries that just went to see their own doctor. Of course, with a bigger population since the nearly 14 years since that survey, there is a bigger chance of sending more to the hospital today. (I do wonder if that is why more people are seeking help for sleep apnea.) No, I really don't see myself going back to putting a pillow under my head as I sleep anytime soon. My question for you is: What is your Top 5 list of how these pillow related injuries may have occurred?

umm well my pillow has a zipper, so maybe someone gets hurt by that? It is also the temperpedic kind that is really dense, so getting into a pillow fight with me may hurt... :)

The only way I can imagine getting hurt by my pillow (I have the kind Teri has) is tripping over it falling down.

This is a hard question, Martin!!!

If I had to pick they would be:

5. Allergic reactions to down pillows
4. Choked on the "Do Not Remove Under Penalty of Law" Tag
3. Suffocated by holding the pillow over your head and face to drown out "The Voices"
2. Cornea scratched by pillow case
1. Lingerie-clasp related injury from an over-active pillow fight.

That's what I've got.

LMAO Ken, that was a good list.

1. Brother nails sister as hard as he can during pillow fight.
2. Husband tries suffocating wife for large insurance policy.
3. Wife tries suffocating husband to stop the snoring, for good.
4. Tripping over pillow that got knocked to the floor from the excitement the night before - you didn't notice it because you were too freaked by the stranger in your bed.
5. Neck injury from using a pillow not suited for your sleep pattern.

All I can think of is an injured vertabre from a pillow that is too firm.....

The reasons have got to be listed somewhere. I can't think of anything that would be classified as an emergency (aside from a horrible allergic reaction or tripping over it). I'm curious to see the stats on this now.

My greatest pillow injury came from not having one -- sleeping on a flat surface just isn't good for the neck.
