Mastering Reality
I like to watch a lot of different types of reality television programs. I just tend to pick a lot of the unusual ones like The Biggest Loser, House Of Dreams, Trading Spaces, The Ultimate Fighter, While You Were Out, The Mansion, The Complex and The Swan. But one thing that I've started to do for the last few years has been to watch the Survivor finale. Why? Well, it's kind of like watching the cliffnotes version of the show and not having to get wrapped up in it. What I find interesting about the shows in this list that I do watch is that they are all shows with a goal of bettering themselves. Losing weight, putting a roof over their heads, decorating a room in that home, getting a dream job, home improvement/decor, home improvement/decor, home improvement/decor and the ultimate makeover. Am I addicted, not really. I just like good stories and several of these shows give me tips on things that I can actually do around the house. (Well, some of them.) Sure the shows are a certain amount of sensationalism and scripting but it is about the entertainment factor after all. Would I ever go on a show like those. Yes. I would have loved to have tried out for Rockstar: INXS (coming soon.) I'd love to send a tape in for Survivor but I also know that a month away from my newsletter, website and blog (and income that pays for all of them) might be a little too much for me. Even worse, it could be during football season.

I wouldn't mind being on Survivor, and I've actually had people try to talk me into trying out for it. But, I'm afraid they would portray me as some kind of psycho bitch from hell with too many personal issues. :o)
It's funny, I used to watch a lot of reality tv before I got cable, but now that I have so many choices, I get overwelmed and end up just popping a DVD in instead.
I got sucked into watching American Idol by the wife, and I used to watch Amazing Race, but the reality shows are just getting lamer and lamer.
Actually, the thing that probably makes it easier for me to watch some of the shows that I do is having a Tivo. Otherwise, I'd probably forget they are on.
I'm a reality TV whore. Boo. And the worst part, is it's all the shows on the forbidden MTV and the "okay" VH1. I know, I know! What the hell is wrong with me? I don't know! I can't help it! I try, I swear I do! The Surreal Life? Love it! Newlyweds? Love it! Ashlee? :( Yes, love it. Laguna Beach, The Real World, Viva La Bam (one of the favorites). I was very hooked on Trading Spaces and While You Were Out. Don't do any of the Survivor or Bachelor and stuff, but it's only 'cause I don't know when they're on. :P I don't like the Survivor, actually. And Fear Factor is just the same ol' boring with different weird things to eat by different people. What you don't like me anymore? It's all good! I got my reality TV, bitches.
I do not like reality tv, with the excpetion of American Idol and the home makeover shows. There are so many shows out there that they have flooded the market. Speaking of flooding the market, who in their right minds are going to watch the new Britney Spears one?
Uh, I came across the new Britney and Keving one, and it's LAME. Not to mention, I've never dissliked a celebrity so much, like I do her. Mothers and fathers, QUIT GIVING YOUR KIDS MONEY TO BUY BRITNEY MUSIC!
I just cant get past the fact that people are willing to put their personal lives on national tv..it freaks me out that they would do that..guess i am a very closed, private individual..but the fact remains that most reality shows are edited or manipulated in some form..and that takes the real "reality" out of them..for me anyway..if you watch them with this knowledge in the front of your mind then they are what they are..entertainment for the masses..give me a good baseball game, the outcome can not be pre-ordained or edited to fit in a time slot..
